Common questions
Pricing, Straight Up
Money questions come up first for good reason, so here's how ours works.
Is the quote really free?
Yes, nothing to pay just to have a look and price the job. Whether you book us that day or think it over for a month, the price we quote is the price you pay.
How do quotes work?
We assess the job on site, then put the price in writing before anything starts. No verbal estimate that changes once the van's parked. If the scope shifts once we're into the wall, we stop, explain what's changed and re-quote before continuing.
How do I pay?
Once the work's done and signed off, we settle up on the day. The price on your written quote is the price on the invoice, no added line items for parking, travel or admin.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No. Quotes are free to get, and there's no fee just for us turning up to look at the job. You only pay for work you've agreed to and had priced in writing first.
Common questions
Licensed, Insured and Done Properly
The legal side matters as much as the workmanship, so here's what backs every job.
What brands do you install?
Clipsal and Hager switchgear, with SAL and Beacon Lighting fittings for lighting jobs. We don't fit unbranded imports because they're the parts most likely to fail behind a wall you can't easily get back into.
What is AS/NZS 3000?
It's the Australian wiring standard every licensed electrician has to work to. It covers cable sizing, circuit protection and safe installation, and it's the baseline for every job we do, not an upsell.
What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?
It's the device on your board that trips the circuit the instant something's not right electrically, well before it can hurt someone. NSW switchboards are required to have them, and plenty of Marsfield's older homes were built before that rule existed.
What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?
It's the paperwork confirming notifiable electrical work meets AS/NZS 3000 and has been lodged with NSW Fair Trading. You get one on completion for any job that requires it, so you've got proof for insurance or a future sale.
Common questions
How Fast We Get to You
Timing questions, answered honestly rather than with a marketing promise.
How fast can you get here?
Often same or next day once you've called and we know the job. Genuine emergencies get bumped straight to the front, no waiting behind non-urgent bookings.
What happens after I call?
Someone from the team picks up and asks what's going on so we can work out what you actually need. From there we find a slot that suits and show up with everything needed to price it properly, in writing, before we start.
What counts as an electrical emergency?
No power, a burning smell, sparking, or anything live and exposed. If the whole street's dark it's usually a network outage rather than something on your side of the meter, and we can help you work out which.
How soon can you fit me in?
Depends on the job and how urgent it is, but you won't be left guessing. Ring us, tell us what's going on, and we'll lock in a slot on the spot.
Common questions
Local to Marsfield
This last group is Marsfield-specific, not generic trade copy.
Do you know Marsfield's housing stock?
Most of Marsfield went up after the 1959 rezoning opened the old green-belt land, so the bulk of it is brick and brick-veneer from the 1960s through to the 2000s. A good share of those original switchboards are still on ceramic fuses with no modern circuit protection, which is one of the more common jobs we quote here.
How local are you, really?
Ryde is home turf and we're on Marsfield streets most weeks, working homes from near Macquarie Park through to the older pockets further south. We're not a franchise dispatching whoever's free.
Why do Marsfield's older homes need switchboard upgrades?
Houses from the 1960s to 80s boom were built to the standards of their day, and ceramic-fuse boards from that era don't give you the circuit protection a modern safety switch does. Upgrading one is a common call in these older streets, especially ahead of a renovation or sale.
Can you handle new builds and renovations here?
Yes. Marsfield's got a real mix, from 1960s brick houses through to newer townhouses and apartments closer to Macquarie Park, and we work across all of it. New builds still need everything signed off and certified properly, same as an older rewire.
